The Self-Assessment Tool for teachers/trainers of foreign languages (FLs) has been designed to enable you to self-assess your knowledge, skills, and competencies regarding teaching FLs to people with learning disabilities (LDs), and to understand your own needs concerning your field. It aims to help you sustain focus on effective and productive language teaching to learners with LDs. Its innovative aspect lies on the fact that it is targeted at the assessment of knowledge and skills of teachers/trainers of FLs, regarding teaching people with LDs.
In addition, users can choose through predetermined options of statements in the areas of:
- methodologies and tools they use when they teach people with LDs;
- measuring their knowledge, skills, and competences regarding teaching FL to people with LD.
According to each users’ choice, the tool is designed to determine the relevant norms and predispositions of the users (i.e., their strengths/weaknesses and knowledge levels). After the completion of the procedure, a relevant report indicating the results is developed and available for the users.
The development of the Self-Assessment Tool for teachers/trainers of foreign languages (FL) to learners with learning disabilities (LDs), is based on the adaptation of the descriptors of the self-assessment section of the European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages (
EPOSTL). The European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages is a document developed by the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML), which encourages reflection on didactic knowledge and skills necessary to teach languages, enhances self-assessment of didactic competences and facilitates monitoring of progress and recording of experiences of language teaching.
The estimated time necessary to complete the Self-Assessment Tool is about 30 minutes.
